Christian ValuesThe children across the school have been interviewed about their values. They are being asked to grade values from 1 - 10. The values are taken from the website www.christianvalues4schools.co.uk and are: Reverence, Wisdom, Thankfulness, Humility, Endurance, Service, Compassion, Trust, Peace, Forgiveness, Friendship, Justice, Hope, Creation and Koinonia. All of these are explained on the website. As part of the interview process, we have produced a podcast and hope to update these podcasts through assemblies and class work about the 15 Christian values. Podcast 10 - Forgiveness (2MB MP3) See our previous podcasts on our Distinctively Christian page. Book Fair Competition
Well done to all the writers who took part in the short story competition – the winners and runners were announced in assembly and have already chosen their prizes. All of the entries were fantastic – including ‘100 Ways How Dinosaurs Died’ - and we had a very difficult job in judging the competition. Have a look at the winning entries below - if they leave you wanting to read more, come into school and have a look at all the entries which are on display in the hall.
Public speaking - the next roundAs we told you a couple of weeks ago, we entered 4 teams from St Nicholas into this year's Rotary Youth Speaks Competition. After their success in the first round of the Youth Speaks competition held in Sidmouth a couple of weeks ago, our 2 winning St Nicholas teams went through to the next round of the competition. The town of Sidmouth and the school
Sidmouth is a Regency seaside town on East Devon's Jurassic Coast . It is about eleven miles from the city of Exeter . Sidmouth's bay is surrounded by red sandstone cliffs, and there are stretches of sandy beach with rock pools. The town is known internationally for its Folk Week which happens each year in August. The local environment provides a rich resource for the school and parts of the curriculum are designed around it.
The original part of our school, as seen from the road, dates from 1900. It was the site of the old secondary school. However, an exciting new development in 2004 has brought the school completely up-to-date. We are very proud of the impressive learning environment we now offer our pupils. Our local community has helped to raise £100,000 towards the £1.6 million cost of the new building.
The accommodation houses twelve classrooms, shared practical areas, a library, an ICT suite, a music/drama room, a hall and kitchen and staff and office facilities. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards. There is a playground at the front of the school and soft play area to the rear.
St Nicholas School is a Voluntary Aided Church School and enjoys a good relationship with local churches in the community. Pupils are offered excellent opportunities to learn and develop, clearly set within a Christian context.
